Hog Hunters Have Nocturnal Encounter

Report Details

Occurrence date: October/2026
Location: Panola County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Gary
Time / Conditions: 20:00 — Cool/cold early night
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
My father and I were hunting hogs on our deer lease, and that afternoon I had shot two that were too big to eat. We loaded the hogs into the truck and drove them to a dry creek bed that we have used for years to dispose of animal remains, including deer, hogs, and coyotes.

The creek bed sits just off a dirt-and-sand road where we had parked the truck. Directly below the road, the ground drops off into the creek bed at a steep slope of about six to eight feet. The carcasses are usually thrown down this slope and land directly below the road. The roadside is covered in dense vegetation, but beyond that, the woods open up into a mixture of pine and oak trees. The creek bed itself is mostly dry, with a small amount of water running through it and plenty of large rocks scattered throughout. At night, it is completely black down there. In fact, at six-foot-two, I could stand straight up where the carcasses usually land, and someone looking down from the road would probably miss me entirely.

As we threw the first hog carcass into the creek bed, it landed on a branch and knocked some rocks loose. Almost immediately, something took off running on two legs for about three seconds before suddenly stopping.

That's when my father and I pulled out our guns and flashlights. Whatever it was started freaking out, making a tremendous amount of noise, crushing tree limbs and moving large amounts of dead leaves. But it never ran away. It stayed just out of sight.

I should also mention that the dry creek bed connects to the area where I had been hunting earlier that day. Just before dark, I heard a pig screaming bloody murder somewhere just off in the woods. It went on for about three or four minutes, with the sound of something crashing into trees. Then, suddenly, everything stopped. There was no more noise, not even any birds.

Going back to the creek bed, carcasses have been thrown into it for years. Hogs, deer, coyotes, and all the bones and other bits and pieces you don't usually keep. About once a year, I walk down there to see if I can find a cool skull that has been bleached white by the sun. In three years, I have not once found anything bigger

Hand/foot prints:
I haven't been back there since

Sounds:
Branchs breaking, leaves crunching and I could have sworn something hit a tree

Additional observations:
Lack of normal wild life noise looking back. No birds nor bugs

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Phil Burrows

I talked to the respondent about his and his Dad’s report that occurred on October 17, 2026. The weather had turned cool that day as a cold snap came thru. The son and dad, ages 21 and 52, had been hog hunting hogs on their deer lease earlier. They had shot 2 large hogs that day and attempted to dispose of them as they were too large to eat. They have previously disposed of deer, coyotes and hogs on their lease in a dry creek bed. They’ve had this lease approximately 4 years. Most of the surrounding land is owned by logging companies. The creek bed sits just off a dirt and sand road where they had parked the truck. Below the road, the ground drops off into a creek bed at a steep slope of about 6-8 feet. The roadside is covered in dense vegetation. Beyond that the woods are a mixture of mostly pine trees with some oak. The creek bed is mostly dry in the summer months with more water in the fall and winter. It’s difficult to see the bottom of the creek from the road above and there’s large rocks in the creek bed. As the 1st hog was dropped down to the creek bed, the hog landed on a branch and some rocks were dislodged. Almost immediately, something startled and ran for several seconds and then stopped suddenly. The sound was of something running in a bipedal fashion. The men immediately pulled pistols and shined flashlights in an attempt to locate whatever had caused the commotion. Nothing was seen or located in the creek bed. The men did not venture down to the creek bed and quickly dropped off the 2nd hog. Whatever the men had startled commenced to crush tree limbs and scattered large amounts of dry leaves. The creature never ran off, it just stayed out of sight. This creek bed connects to the area where one of the hunters had been hunting earlier that day. During this hunt, a hog was heard screaming very loudly somewhere in the close area. This went on for 3-4 minutes with the sound of something crashing into trees. The sound stopped suddenly. There were no other sounds, not even birds.
The respondent mentioned this area is rather strange at times as he’s had the feeling of being watched. He’s found tree branches wrist size snapped off. No footprints have been found other than the usual deer, coyote, hogs etc. and no unusual odors detected. He did hear howls one evening while in his deer stand late at night.

The report is credible in my opinion and the respondent truthful.
