- Class 1a
- Class 1, Corroboration: Reports involving a sighting, and accompanied by another form of support.1a A sasquatch/bigfoot specimen has been collected (alive or dead).
- Class 1b
- Class 1, Corroboration: Reports involving a sighting, and accompanied by another form of support.1b A report investigation results in a sasquatch observation or the documentation of clear tracks or other forms of physical evidence by an investigator.
- Class 1c
- Class 1, Corroboration: Reports involving a sighting, and accompanied by another form of support.1c An investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot by a very reliable observer is a distinct possibility, tangible corroborating evidence is documented, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
- Class 1d
- Class 1, Corroboration: Reports involving a sighting, and accompanied by another form of support.1d A visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility involving two or more reliable observers, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
- Class 2
- Class 2, Competency: Reports involving sightings by professionally trained or highly skilled observers.2 Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is exceptionally trustworthy, professionally trained, and experienced in the outdoors and/or is accustomed to looking for and recording details (e.g., biologist, anthropologist/archaeologist, ranger, trapper/tracker/seasoned hunter, bird watcher, game warden, naturalist, law enforcement), and other explanations can be reasonably excluded.
- Class 3a
- Class 3, Credibility: Sightings or possible wood ape evidence reported by credible witnesses.3a Investigator determines that a visual encounter with a sasquatch/bigfoot is a distinct possibility, the observer is credible, and all other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
- Class 3b
- Class 3, Credibility: Sightings or possible wood ape evidence reported by credible witnesses.3b Unidentifiable vocalizations were reported and there is accompanying tangible evidence to possibly indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot, the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.
- Class 3c
- Class 3, Credibility: Sightings or possible wood ape evidence reported by credible witnesses.3c No visual encounter occurred, but physical evidence was found to indicate the presence of a sasquatch/bigfoot (tracks, hair, scat, etc.), the observer is very reliable, and other sources can be reasonably ruled out.

Witness Account:
Around 11:50am on Sunday, August 2nd. traveling north on county road C from Washburn, something shaped like a human, all black in color, very tall with unusually long arms ran across the highway from right to left (roughly north to south). It was approximately 125 yards in front of me when it crossed. I was traveling aroud 55 mph. It appeared to have taken roughly 4 steps to cross two 12' lanes plus shoulders. There are deep ditches & forests on both sides of the road.
At first I thought maybe it was a tall person wearing black pants and a black hoodie. The reason I believed it was wearing a hoodie is that the head came to a point such as a gorilla's head does. I was initially confused as to what exactly it was that I just saw. I slowed down and stopped at the point of what I believed to be the crossing and saw no tracks or any scuffs in the shoulder gravel, etc. I got out of my truck on a side road that goes south and is about 30 yards closer than the crossing spot.
The weather was mostly sunny and warm, being close to 80 degrees at the time of this observation. I was on my way to the shooting range that was roughly 7 miles further ahead. There was no other traffic at the time of the crossing. This area is utilized mainly by atv traffic, but there were none at the time. The figure kept looking straight forward and did not appear to be watching me nor other vehicles. The speed it was going was impossible for me to believe unless seeing it first-hand.
I exited my truck on the side road and looked around for any sign, sounds or smells. I couldn’t find anything. It has been warm and dry for several weeks and the ground is dry and hard in most places.
I messaged my wife and told her what I thought I had seen, returned home, picked my wife up and we both went back to the area. We walked the shoulders & ditches looking for anything out of the ordinary, such as grass, branches knocked down, etc. and found nothing. Further south on the side road (forest road 697) that parrelled the path of this being, is a dedicated atv/snowmobile trail that my wife and I walked down about half a mile & back. We found nothing.
Ten years ago in September of 2016, I discovered a track line in a sand pit that is 4.4 miles, as the crow flies (thank you grok), frequented by people who shoot firearms and use things such as discarded televisions, old fire extinguishers, etc. It’s a real mess with broken and sharp shards nearly every step from the road (junction of forest road 500 & 500b) to halfway into the pit.
The far east side is much cleaner but still has a dangerous amount of sharp objects on and just below the sand surface. This is where I found footprints that were approximately 15” long spaced farther apart than a human could walk. There is no way that a person in their right mind would be walking through this place barefoot.
Never in my life did I imagine seeing what I saw last Sunday, or in 2016. The 2016 find was submitted to the BFRO, which did contact me and found my report to be credible. I don't remember the name of the person I spoke with, but they gave me Jeff Meldrum's e-mail address & asked me to send the photos to him. I did but never heard back from anyone.
If anyone would like to speak with me, I am available most evenings. If I don't answer, please leave a message and number to call you back.

Investigator's Observations
Investigator(s): Mark Mellicker
Location is in a national forest, some building in the area but mostly wooded with low human population. A mix of deciduous and conifers with a higher percent of conifers. Many lakes and creeks in the area as well as Lake Superior. Lots of white tail deer, turkeys, black bears all of which are hunted when in season. There are some pastures with cattle and a pig farm a couple of miles away. An interesting fact is that bear hunters can run their dogs in a preseason (can't take the bears yet) which started a week before the sighting. I asked if he heard any dogs when he stopped at the crossing site and he couldn't recall hearing dogs or any other sounds. No smells noted. Wasn't able to decern many body details other that the shape, that it was black and the arms appeared disproportionally long compared to the legs. As he mentioned in the report, it looked like a person in a hoodie because of the pointed head shape. Build was reported as "normal" for the animals size. He estimated weight at 450 lbs. but stated that was a pure guess. I asked if he thought it was a known animal and he said no, it was upright and running on two legs, couldn't be a bear and way to fast for a human. I asked if there were any road signs or structures that he could use for height estimate. He did say there are two signs that it traveled between and said he will go back and use them to estimate height. I recommended he take a 6 foot 2x4 or something of know height and place it next to the sign, then return to where he saw it to get a height estimate. He's going to let me know what he thinks this week. He noted that it was in a "dead run, "on a mission" and the sighting lasted 2 seconds. It moved faster that anything he's seen in the wild. There was no indication that it noticed him coming or reacted to his presence. I asked if there are any reports or local conversation about bigfoot and he said not really and people are normally shy and skeptical about the topic. He noted that when he was telling his wife she mentioned that he was stuttering which he doesn't stutter unless he's stressed.
It's difficult to decern people's character during a phone call but my feeling is that the witness is being truthful and believes he saw an animal that fits the description of a wood ape.
*The witness later returned to the location and determined the height to be approx. 6'11" in height.
