Witness Account:
My visiting great uncle was working on a water pump at a creekside far back into a heavily wooded valley-I walked up with him. After being there probably 30 mins, I began wandering around the area. I walked further up the hillside for 5-10 mins, but stopped when I started "feeling creeped out"-you could feel someone staring at you but couldn't see anyone. I went back downhill to my great uncle and asked him when he'd be finished. That eerie feeling came back so I looked back toward the area where I'd taken my short walk, but I looked far up the hillside past the tree line to an area that was tall grass with no trees, rocks, crevices, etc. Not far from this area's farthest edge toward where the landscape went back into thick forest, I saw a large crouched dark figure which was facing us & simply watching. One point to make: I lived in this area from the ages of 5-11 and had roamed. played, and slept on these hillsides MANY times. I have seen cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, deer, foxes, raccoons and probably any other forest being you could name from very close to short distances away, so I would know what I was seeing. What I saw was definitely NOT any species that I knew. It would have been huge up close judging from the size I saw at a distance. It was very dark black, very short neck, broad shoulders, and long arms. It must have had very muscular legs because it didn't sift it's weight nor move at all from that crouching position the entire time I watched. I was too far away so I did not notice any smell, noises, vocalizations, etc. I only experienced feeling watched. I asked my grt uncle what that was and pointed towards the creature, and he watched it with me for about another 1-2 mins. I could tell that he felt uneasy by the way he fidgeted with the small tools in his hands and the way he shifted his stance a couple of times-he was normally a stoic type person. He said he didn't know, but we had been gone quite a while & should get back to the house. He wrapped up his work and we followed the creek down the valley and back to my great grandparents house. Of course the first thing I did was to announce what had happened and everyone told me there was nothing to worrying about. I went inside and sat at a desk which was close to an open window to eavesdrop on what the grown-ups would talk about without any kids around. My great uncle told his mother, my great grandmother, exactly the same description which I have written above. Her response was priceless: it had always been said that there were people very different from us who lived in supposed caves from deeper into the woods; she had heard stories from even when she was a child (she was prob in her early/mid seventies at this time). Then she said "there's really no telling what might live there and we'd never see it. Leave them alone-let them be".
