Report Details

Occurrence date: September/2003
Location: Liberty County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Kenefick
Time / Conditions: 23:00 — Clear night
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
It's been a long time ago.. don't remember the season or date.. but what I do remember is I made a report to BFRO. And the investigator changed my story , worded it the way he saw fit.. I explained I am of Hispanic decent and what I saw was not seconds of seeing him it was minutes staring at him with my headlights. He was waiting to cross the road.. we had braked about 50ft from him. Screaming as to whether or not I could back up or have to go forward. Realizing what we were seeing and how huge he was. His face was that of a man.. he had lips and a human nose . As I decided to go forward. I told my son to get next to me cause I'm gonna have to pass him and I didn't want his long arms reaching in. Went to take off and as we passed him I could see everything. The face was with out hair. And I could see his Young skin tone. He was only 5ft from me as we passed him looking up into my windshield he looked back as we screamed passed him.. he was holding onto the sign he was standing next to. As if he was taking a breather. Them he has my headlights on him, His face was as large as the metal sign if not larger. An slightly angry looking mexican man.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Tami Grimes

This is the final report of a roadside visual encounter with large, bipedal animal near Trinity River, Texas, at 11:00pm on September 2003. The incident details were obtained through an exchange of emails, due to the witness’s preference of communication and for anonymity. In her incident report to the NAWAC, she expressed dissatisfaction with the way her account was summarized by another organization; specifically, the duration of the sighting was changed to sound very brief and the anatomical details of the animal she provided were changed. She expressed her desire to have her encounter report more closely reflect her encounter experience.

Background:

The sighting occurred on Hwy 1008, near the intersection with Hwy 321. This stretch is a two-lane rural roadway bordered by deep ditches and forested thickets adjacent to the Trinity River, and the location is in proximity to Lucy Bayou.
The witnesses are an adult female (Hispanic descent) and her son, who at the time was in 9th grade and approx. 6’ tall.

Summary of Incident:

The witnesses were slowly traveling that night along Hwy 1008 when they observed a large, upright figure emerge from the tree line adjacent to the Trinity River. It came to a stop, standing on the right side of the road still near the treeline. The witness brought the vehicle to a complete stop approximately 50 feet from the figure. The witness and her son were afraid to drive past the animal for fear it would reach into the open windows of the vehicle. They discussed whether to chance driving past or change their route for some time, while the creature remained stationary and illuminated by the vehicle’s headlights—estimated by the witness to be several minutes.

The witness explained the animal as was standing next to a metal road sign, which it gripped with its right hand, as though using the sign for support. The witness further described the subject as appearing “fatigued” and it stared directly at them as it waited by the sign, possibly acclimating to the headlights. No sounds or sudden movements were reported during the observation.

The witness and her son decided to attempt to pass the animal, and she instructed her son to roll up the vehicle windows and shift away from the passenger-side door to minimize risk of contact. She proceeded slowly but deliberately, passing within approximately five feet of the animal. At this close range, the animal turned its head to look through the windshield as the vehicle passed, but made no attempt to approach or interact with the vehicle.

Description of the subject:

Height: More than 9 feet in height, using the height of the road sign as a measure.

Build: Described as extremely large and muscular bipedal hominoid.

Posture: Upright, with the right hand holding the road sign, and the left hand at its side. The fingertips extended below its knees.

Hair: Approximately nine inches long, covering the body. She described the color as similar to “dried pine needles.”

Skin: Exposed facial skin was described as youthful and light brown, comparable to skin of a person of Hispanic descent.

Facial Features: Mostly hairless and as “big and broad as the sign.” She described dark brown eyes and a broad human-like nose. She likened its large lips to “those of Angelina Jolie.”

Other Notes: The witness described an expression on the animal’s face as "angry" or stern based on facial tension and witness’s subjective impression. No odor or vocalizations were noted, and she reported no overt aggression; just the angry expression remaining fixed throughout the observation.

The witness reported that neither she nor her son returned to the location to search for physical evidence, and that the event was not discussed between the two of them until nearly a year later, when the witness decided to file an initial report with another research organization.
