Afternoon Sighting of Large Creature by Campground Hosts

Report Details

Occurrence date: February/2024
Location: County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Tow
Time / Conditions: 14:00 — Partly cloudy and cool temp in the 50's.
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
My wife and I have been working as park hosts at a campground on Lake Buchanan in Central Texas for the past few months. Today, February 14th at approximately 2PM, we were cleaning one of the camping loops in the the park. Our park is located at the North end of the lake where the water is quite shallow. The water level has been low for some time now, so part of the area is kind of swampy or marshy. While we were working, I heard my wife say "Oh my gosh, is that a Bigfoot?". I stopped what I was doing to go look at what she was seeing. Sure enough, there was a large upright bipedal something walking in the marshy, grass area on the other side of a small channel of water at a distance of about 150 yards. He was moving from left to right. The sky was partly cloudy and our initial view was unobstructed. I first thought "Geez, that's a pretty big dude. I wonder why in the world he's over there walking on the other side of the water in that muck". Next, I realized he appeared to be all one color from head down. I couldn't make out any facial features or clothing features. All I could tell for sure was that he was large and all black or dark brown. My wife and I were about 20 feet apart and talking back and forth, not exactly trying to be stealthy. After a few seconds, the thing we were watching stopped and looked in our direction. After a few seconds, it turned and began walking again, but now he began walking away from us towards the taller grass and brush and the hills on the other side. My wife had her phone and tried to get some video. The camera isn't that great so the quality is not that good, but it's there in the video. Maybe if it could be enlarged and cleaned up, it might show what we saw. A couple of times over the past months, we've heard things at night up at our RV site. One night it sounded like something was hitting the side of the trailer. Another time it sounded like someone was attempting to access our storage bays. By the time grab a flashlight and personal defense item and get outside, I can't find anything.

Physical evidence:
Not great quality, was taken on wife's phone camera.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Bill Davis

Lake Buchanan Encounter Report 2/14/2024 at approximately 14:00. Weather was cloudy and overcast.

The park is owned and operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and is located at 30°52’18N and 98°27’10W on the West bank of Lake Buchanan. The area is rural and typical hill country terrain. The lake is at historic lows water levels and much of the lake bottom is now exposed and above water. The above photo is from Llano County Tax Appraisal website and shows a satellite view of the lake at full capacity. There are 2 lines added to the photo that demonstrate the location of a sunken boat laser ranged to exactly 330 yards from the base of a tree near the location that the siting took place (short line). The longer line represents the general location of the siting where the subject was observed.

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Bill Davis interviewed the witness at the location of the reported sighting. The witness and his wife work as campground overseers and live on the property in their RV. The property is owned by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and is a park and campground.

On February 14, 2024 (Wednesday) at 14:00 local time the witness and his wife were cleaning and picking up trash at the park in the early afternoon when she happened to look across the lake and spied something large walking from the right to left direction, or towards them. She exclaimed to her husband that there is something across the lake, is it a bigfoot? They were about 20 feet apart and he looked in that direction and saw the subject. They were talking to each other about the siting and were talking in normal tones, not trying to be quiet. The subject switched directions and began walking away from them, or from the left to the right (towards the East). It is possible that the subject heard them talking and became aware of them, per the witness.

After a minute or two, she got her phone out and began to film the subject as it was walking away. They continued to watch the subject, and at one point it appeared to stop and turn around to look back at them before resuming it’s walk away. He demonstrated how the subject turned while recounting what he saw, and he used his body to turn and said that it was weird that way it turned with it’s body. He stated that it did not look like it was turning it’s head, but turned at the waist more. When asked about the height and shape of the subject, he said that it was big, probably over 7’ tall, and was uniformly colored a dark brownish color from head to toe. I asked him if he was familiar with the PG film, and the shape of the animal in the film, and he said that yes, he has seen the film, and that yes, the body structure and shape was very similar. He was not able to discern any detail of the subject’s face or body, but it did not appear to have clothing that was identifiable. It was uniform in appearance.

They have been at the park since August 2023 at attendants. When asked about any unusual sounds they only reported hearing what a fisherman told them was a mountain lion scream at night. When asked about noticing any unusual activities in the area, he said that there have been several incidents of someone/something coming to their RV during the night and messing with their RV. A loud slap on the side one night, and also something/someone messing with an outdoor storage building. One night they heard something that was touching the RV and appeared to be fumbling about on the outside making contact with the RV. He also said that he always goes outside with his flashlight and a gun when he hears things but has only once notice eyeshine during one of these events. During this event the they heard something hit the side of the RV and he went outside with his flashlight and pistol. He said that he shined his light all around his RV area and directly across the road from the RV, approximately 30 feet away there was eyeshine behind a bush. He said that the eyeshine was yellow/whiteish, and that whatever it was did not retreat, so he did. He could not identify the animal but noticed that the eyes were large and far apart. The height of the eyeshine was consistent with a person or larger animal standing behind the bush, not at a height that a mountain lion or livestock would be.

Below are additional photos of the area that demonstrate the low water level of the lake. We were able to talk to her as well on our way out. She related her version of events that day and both of them have the same story to tell. There were no inconsistencies that were obvious. I think that they are credible witnesses.
