Bowhunter Has Frightening Experience Near Lake Whitney

Report Details

Occurrence date: October/2005
Location: Hill County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Whitney
Time / Conditions: 06:00 — The weather had been sunny all day. The scream occurred right before total sunset.
# of Witnesses: 1

Witness Account:
The sun was setting fast and I had been bowhunting that day on Army Corps land near Lake Whitney in Hill County, Texas. As I was walking down a firebreak trail, a terrible scream was directed at me. It came from across a fenced pasture on the adjacent Steiner Valley Ranch. Whatever screamed at me was crouched down less than one hundred yards away under a Live Oak Tree. It was not a mountain lion, fox, or anything like that.
I’ve explored forests, woodlands, and secluded country areas for years and heard all kinds of animal sounds and calls. Nothing matches up with any animal screams that are common to North America.
The scream I heard was so startling and different that I could not categorize it with any known specie. All I know is that I wanted to get back to my pickup quickly without incident. All my hunting gear was strapped to my back and in both hands. With that much gear you can’t move very fast. And the walk from the tree stand to my pickup was a long one in the dark. No Sasquatch tracks were ever found and no known sightings were made in that area.

Sounds:
Very loud scream directed straight at me on a trail.
