Group Has Late Night Visitor to Their Bonfire

Report Details

Occurrence date: Summer/1998
Location: County, MI
Nearby/Vicinity: Mikado, MI
Time / Conditions: 22:00 — Nighttime, fairly dark with a spotlight aimed into the woods (It was probably attracted to the light and fire?), slightly damp and humid but about 50 degrees.
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
I was with my cousin in Mikado, Michigan by our bonfire. We were relaxing at the fire until we started hearing sticks crack and a grunting noise. It was coming from about 20-30 feet away from us, and we heard it walk calmly towards us. We shined a flashlight at what appeared to be a creature standing upright that looked like a combination of a gorilla for a head and a fat, roundish black bear's body, I'd say it was about 8'6" in height. It had almost no neck as the shoulders looked massive where the neck meets, with a large chest but a barrel-chested stomach. Arms and legs were thicker than a bears would be and as we shined the light at the creature's eyes they glowed red. The face looked like a silverback gorilla with high cheekbones, squarish jaw and a rounded head on top, black skin. Black fur covered everything but the face and the inner parts of the hands. We freaked out and ran back inside the house, no one was hurt.

Physical evidence:
We checked the area we heard the noise come from and noticed that branches on a path of trees were all broken as if someone grabbed them and broke them as they walked through. Most of our property was heavy clay that dried and we could not find footprints.
