Roadway Sighting of 8ft Creature

Report Details

Occurrence date: January/2011
Location: Hempstead County, AR
Nearby/Vicinity: Blevins
Time / Conditions: 18:00 — Bright party cloudy I think. Weather was clear. about 17:00 ( 5:00 PM )
# of Witnesses: 1

Witness Account:
I was driving down State Hwy. 195 in northern Hempstead Co. Ark. when I noticed movement in my rear view mirror. I thought it might have been a deer. Being a deer hunter and being close to my house, I wanted to see how big it was. I pulled over and turned around in my seat and what I saw was not a deer. This creature was standing upright and crossed the road about a 1/4 mile from my car. It appeared to be at least 8 ft. tall but at that distance I could not be sure. I do know for certain that it was NOT a bear. There are only a few bear in this area and they are small black bear. This creature was a brownish gray color. It was heading away from me but didn't seem in a big hurry. It looked to me as if it waited for me to get clear of it before crossing the road. I turned the car around and went back to where I thought it crossed but all I found was rustled leaves on the side of the road. this could have been caused by anything, but there was a pungent smell in the area. This happened about a mile and a half from my home and I pass that area frequently but have not seen it again.
