Witness Account:
We were driving down one of the roads in the GMA when something in two strides crossed the road stepped over the ditch knelt down did a half body turn. Not just turn its head, but turn its whole upper body and looked straight at us. It was creepy, it looked at us, stood up and took off into the trees. We were in shock it was definitely unexpected. One of those things where any hair you got is standing up.
It was about 6 1/2 ft. tall long dark hair except for the face area and I'll be honest it scared me it looked like a human. It had a thick build its arms and legs moved differently not like a monkey scurrying around its thick arms and legs were in stride they moved together It was unbelievable the way it moved so smooth and fast.
The animal that we saw was crossing from the public hunting area into the small game area and that is only open at certain times of the year and that wasn't it.
Physical evidence:
I don't know I didn't go back for a month I was to afraid to go alone and I couldn't find anyone to go with me. Since then I have made going through there a regular part of my routine.
Sounds:
Not that I can remember but it seemed like everything just went silent once it all started.
Additional observations:
No, not that I noticed.
Investigator's Observations
Investigator(s): Robert Taylor
This investigation was conducted as a result of a reported incident that allegedly occurred in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, November 2001.
I talked to the witness about her experience at length on 24 October 2005. There was also another witness with whom she is trying to put me in touch.
The witness described the subject as dark with short medium length hair; she said she noticed a reddish tint around the head and hair around the face, but not on the face. The witness described the subject as looking "like a person with hair." She described the subject's build as being similar to that of the subject seen in the Patterson-Gimlin footage shot at Bluff Creek, California in 1967. However, this particular subject was "thin," but "strong," and "healthy." The figure was estimated to be six feet tall. The witness said that the subject walked about twenty yards in front of her vehicle and stopped at the side of the road with its back to them, squatted, and turned its torso and head together to look at them. Then, it got up and disappeared into the woods. The witness remarked that "the eyes were real."
This event took place centrally, in far Eastern Oklahoma. The report location was on a dirt road wedged between two wildlife management areas, one of which is off limits most of the year to everyone.
The terrain consists of thick woods and is hilly with ravines. Green Leaf Lake is the closest lake and Lake Ten Killer is also near. There are caves and at least one abandoned house. There is plenty of livestock in the area. The area of the sighting is accessible to the public.
I found the witness's account to be compelling. She did volunteer when asked to show us the area. She is from a family of hunters and seems to be a very experienced black powder hunter herself.
