Witness Account:
First off I want to say that I have spent over 20 years working in some type of government postion. This has been federal, state and the military. I am not given to flights of fancy or one to tell crazy tales and it has taken me a long time to finally say something about this.I was living about 35 minutes drive outside of San Antonio due west in a rural area called Mico Texas. One nite at approximatley 2100 hours (could have been later) I tried to let the dogs outside to do their nightly routine before settling in for the night. I opened the garage door and the dogs stopped at the edge of the driveway and the garage door and started air scenting. I was a dog handler for a Law Enforcement agency at one time and had a dog that was trained to find drugs by smell. One of the things he would do was he would lift his nose and just do a random sniff of the air a couple of times when he thought there was something interesting to smell. The dogs (3 of them, 2 shepherd mix and a large dacshund) refused to leave the garage and just whined at me. After a few minutes of this going on I brought them back in the house and let them out into the back yard which was fenced. A few minutes later they were barking so I went outside and called them back in. I had left my work computer in my vehicle so I went outside and I put my hand on the door knob to open it and I heard some grunting behind me that was very close so I turned around and was hit with a smell that was so strong and feral and seemed so close it was almost like it was standing next to me. Very overwhelming. The house that I lived in at the time was way out in the middle of no where with the next closest house at least 500 yards away so there was no street lights or lights coming from another house so I was trying to adjust my eyes and there appeared to me a very large/very tall something that appeared to be black in color standing behind a tree about 10 feet away from me and shaking the tree and grunting. It scared me so bad that I went it to the house and shut the garage door and sat up in the living room with the dogs all nite. They growled several times during the nite but I never heard another sound. I finally fell asleep the next morning and that afternoon I got up and went outside to look around with the dogs. The ground is very rocky out there and there were no tracks. I say there were no tracks but that is only because I have had alot of time to think about the situation and I will say that the ground did not appear to be disturbed because of the rockiness. Not sure if that is a word. The dogs were very busy sniffing the ground but stayed in the immediate area.

I have never told this to another soul in my life as I don't want to be looked at like a nut case or something. I don't know if you guys have had any other sighting in the area but I figured I could tell someone now. I am also a hunter and have spent a considerable amount of time in the woods and have never seen, smelled or experienced anything like this before or since. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't a bear or a hog or a deer or a porcupine for that matter. It also wasn't a man. Way too big.

Sounds:
grunting and tree shaking

Additional observations:
overwhelming smell. Very feral
