Witness Account:
While camping off the San Bernard river bank in Kendelton Texas Wharton county I heard a sound that I had never heard before. It was roughly 10 to 10:30 at night about 40 degrees and a very quite night. My son and I were sleeping in the tent and after it sounded the first time I didn't pay much attention to it suspecting a large hog or cow. Once it sounded for the second time I sat up in the tent and listened I knew that time It was not a cow or hog. I grew up in the country and I am very familiar with the sounds of our lands. This I had never heard before, the creature sounded a total of 5 times and I never could identify the sound, It was a deep loud breath with in 150 foot from us. In the morning I didn't bother looking for any tracks being my son and I chose to abandon our canoe trip due to the river being full of log jams and not clear enough for canoeing. We canoed in 6.75 miles from hwy. 59 and ended up walking back 7 miles leaving the canoe tied up and we will return to retrieve the canoe when it dries up.
Sounds:
Deep, loud and very distinct very different from a large hog or cow.
Additional observations:
no smells or sighting just sound
