Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Walter Blake

This investigation was conducted as a result of an alleged visual encounter in Hardin County, Texas on State Highway 787, a few miles north of the East Texas town of Saratoga, in June of 2006.

The location of the reported encounter is in the vicinity of the intersection of Highway 787 and Bragg Road, or the so-called ?Ghost Road.?

During the interview, the primary witness stated that sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 P.M., she was driving north on a return trip from Beaumont, Texas, and was accompanied by her children: a young son and juvenile daughter. The witness stated that within 100 feet, an upright animal, almost completely covered with short reddish-brown hair, and approximately seven to eight feet in height, crossed the highway in front of their vehicle. The sighting lasted only seconds as the subject walked across the highway in front of the car in three strides. All who were in the vehicle reportedly observed the subject.

The witness also reported seeing long arms swinging that appeared to reach down to the subject?s knees. She also recalled an unusually large facial area.

No detail of facial features or gender could be determined.

As the car passed, the witness watched the subject disappear into the woods on posted-hunting-club property.

I could detect no attempt to mislead or fabricate the account. My assessment is that the witness?s account represented an actual incident that she recalled to the best of her ability; I believe she was honest in her interpretation of events. The other witnesses were not available for interview or comment.

Furthermore and interestingly, there were several other similar accounts coming from this area of Southeast Texas during 2006, one of which was a very unnerving face-to-face encounter in January 2006 by a NAWAC research team on assignment in the Big Thicket National Preserve a scant few miles away.
