Witness Account:
My Mom and Dad had gone to town to pick up pizza for supper. On their way back home they were approaching an s-corner on 1461 north of Hwy 380 and saw a large light brown colored figure cross the road. The figure was standing upright and was moving very fast, across the road.
They were very startled at what they saw. They traveled about 50 yards past the figure and then looked at each other. My mother asked my dad if he just saw what she saw, and he replied that he did. My mother then stated that she believes that it was a bigfoot and my father agreed.
They claim that the figure was in a hurry to climb a hill and get over a fence that was on the west side of the road, and that the figure made long strides as it moved across the street.
My mother and father came home with the pizza and I could tell that they were shaken up by the experience. My father told me about what they had seen, so we grabbed our rifles and flashlights and went back to where the figure was spotted. We searched the road ditches and fence lines. I remember seeing a large cedar tree which had grown through the barbwire fence. This cedar tree had a large branch that was about three inches in diameter and had been snapped in a downward position at the trunk of the tree. I must say that we did not look for things that we should have like foot prints or hair on the fence, but it was a nerve racking evening.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have spent more time looking for clues. I am writing this for my mother. You can contact her for further details. I told her about the
discovery that I made when I visited your website and she was very happy that they were not the only ones to have seen this figure on Hwy 1461. I believe that the other mentioned sighting was several miles further south, but it is exactly what they saw. My mother stated that she would not have told the story, until she heard that someone had came forward and told their story. I just wonder how many other have seen this figure and have not told their story.
Hand/foot prints:
n/a
Sounds:
None.
Additional observations:
It was 7 feet tall, light brown hair, long strides and moved fast.
Investigator's Observations

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Collin County, Texas, near McKinney, in September 1985.
I interviewed both witnesses at length in January 2007, including an examination of the sighting location with the driver of the truck. The witnesses decided to submit this report after reading about another road sighting that reportedly occurred only one year later in October 1986 and was located just two miles south, near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1461 and Highway 380. Before their submission, both observers had only spoken about the sighting to their immediate family because they felt friends and others would not believe them.
At the time of the incident, the area was rural and undeveloped. It has undergone dramatic growth and housing sub-division development since the late 1990s; it now bears little resemblance to the setting there in the mid 1980s. At the time of the reported incident, the area was a typical northcentral Texas rural environment, replete with creeks, ponds/lakes, dense riparian wildlife travel courses and family farms.
Approximately 100 feet to the east of the road and the sighting location, there is a creek that runs north to south. On the three-acre plot of land directly on the opposite side of the road, the witness stated that the lot used to be covered with trees and there was a small pond.
According to the witnesses, they were traveling south on Farm to Market Road 1461 in an early 1970s-model pickup truck during dusk. They stated that visibility was limited because of drizzling rain and haze, plus one of the truck?s headlights was not working; the other headlight was on high beam. There is an S-turn just before the intersection at Bloomdale Road. The witnesses stated that when the truck completed the turn, they saw an upright bipedal body covered completely with hair, walking at a brisk pace with long strides and big arm swings, traveling from east to west. They first spotted the subject on the grass on the left side of the road and last saw it on the opposite side.
The driver stated that the subject crossed the road in three to four steps. He said he thought the second step was across the middle yellow line of the road. We measured the road width at twenty-two feet; therefore the stride would have been at least five and one-half feet long if the figure took exactly four steps.
The witnesses described the body hair as rusty red/brown, matted and unkempt; the hair appeared dirty. The driver estimated the body hair to be two inches in length and the length of the hair hanging from the arms was six to seven inches. He indicated the hands were covered with hair as well.
According to the driver, the truck?s lone headlight only lit the portion of the body from the lower calf up to the chest. He said that he could not see the feet, shoulders or head. Given the portion of the body seen, he estimated the subject to be at least seven feet tall. He stated that the body width was approximately three and one-half feet and the chest thickness was between twenty and twenty-four inches. While the form was in the headlight, he estimated that closest distance to the truck was approximately 25 feet. As the pickup passed the figure, he stated that he assumed it continued its path toward a large cedar tree on the fence line. He estimated the sighting lasted approximately five seconds.
Of particular interest to the witness was the subject?s walk. He stated that the subject?s gait and walk was exactly like that of the figure seen in the Patterson-Gimlin film. He said the figure had a ?funny gait? as the knees never straightened even though the stride was long. He also stated that the subject's torso remained erect and that its buttocks seemed flat as it walked in a deliberate manner across the road. He described how the subject did not appear to react to their approaching pickup.
The passenger added additional detail of the incident, stating that she could see the subject?s stooped shoulders and head. She explained that as the truck passed the subject, she last saw it walking up the ditch?s embankment towards the fence line and cedar tree.
The driver remembered that immediately after the incident, he was shocked and in disbelief about what he had seen. After driving a short distance, both witnesses discussed what had just happened and agreed that what they saw was a bigfoot.
The next day, the driver and his son, who submitted the report to the NAWAC, investigated the site for tracks, but none were found as the shoulder area of the road was covered with thick grass. However, they found a broken limb dangling from the large cedar tree described earlier. The snapped limb was about four feet high and one and one-forth inches wide. The witness described that he could still smell the aroma of cedar break and he estimated the snap to have occurred within the past 24 to 36 hours. I also interviewed the witnesses? son and he corroborated the snapped limb description.
I asked the witness if he had ever heard any unusual sounds in the area. He said that he heard ?whooping? sounds on about five different occasions in the early 1990s. He heard them from the porch of his home before sunrise. However, he did say that they could have come from a hyena that was believed to have escaped from a nearby wild game preserve. On one occasion, after hearing the sound behind his home, he shined a flashlight towards the sound and saw what he believed to be eyes reflecting the light.
The husband and wife have lived in the area for several years and travel the road frequently. The husband is now retired from a profession that is regarded by the general public for its integrity. I interviewed each witness twice and his or her descriptions of the event did not change. Both are still convinced that they saw a bigfoot.
In addition, NAWAC Regional Leader Jerry Hestand indicated that there have been second hand reports and rumors of a so-called ?goat man? that was allegedly seen in the late 1970s near Erwin Park ? less than two miles from the above report location. Sections of the park are heavily wooded. Hestand?s wife, who lived in McKinney at the time, stated that people claimed to have seen the subject run across roads and make vocalizations in the woods. Mrs. Hestand reported that she heard unusual vocalizations in the area as well.
