Case: 01080021

Class 3a

Midnight road cross encounter on Highway 21 near Milam.

Report Details

Occurrence date: September/2007
Location: Sabine County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Milam
Time / Conditions: Midnight — Clear.
# of Witnesses: 1

Witness Account:
I crested a hill at midnight and my truck halogen headlights picked up the creature as he crossed the highway approximately 150 yards away at the bottom of the hill at the bridge. It was very tall, dark, and I could clearly see the legs working as it crossed. When I got to the bottom of the hill, I whipped my truck over to the right (it was crossing north to south) trying to pick it up but saw nothing else. Of course, that area is dense forest and depressed by the creek so it didn't surprise me, but sure wish I could have seen it again.

I have reported this to two other flakey, in my opinion, so-called research organizations to no avail. Had forgotten about you guys until I was watching Weird Travels on The Travel Channel last night. Your people were doing research in The Big Thicket near here and I chastized myself for not reporting this incident to you guys in the first place. Your group seems to be quite serious, well organized and legit.

Hand/foot prints:
None. Didn't stop.

Sounds:
Was in my truck.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): John Morley

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Sabine County, Texas around midnight on Highway 21 near Milam, 15 September 2007.

I have interviewed the witness on several occasions regarding this reported incident. The witness attended the 2007 Texas Bigfoot Conference where I had opportunity to meet with him in person and discuss the incident with him again.

The witness related to me that the incident was just as he had reported. He heard no sounds as he was driving his truck at the time, only observing the large, upright, dark subject cross the highway ahead of him and just prior to the bridge over Boregas Creek. He said the subject walked across the highway in about two seconds and disappeared into the woods. The witness had no other explanation for what he saw other than it was a "bigfoot."

The witness related that he grew up in East Texas and is very familiar with the Neches River south of Tyler; he spent abundant time in the woods. He had never before seen anything like this although he said he had heard strange whistles and had seen what in hindsight looked like crude shelters or nests. At that time however he did not know what he was hearing or seeing.

Since the visual encounter, he has read as much as he can on the Internet in an effort to educate himself. My impression is that the witness is very reliable and I found no reason to doubt his account. I may very well visit the area of this sighting with the witness in the future.

Addendum; 31 March 2008: I further interviewed the witness over a two-day period (27 - 28 March) and conducted an examination of the site. My purpose was to not only examine the site of the reported incident, but seek out others in the area rumored to have had similar incidents. Unfortunately, one witness was not available due to illness and the other was out of town and unavailable.

The attached photos are of the highway where the incident allegedly occurred. I found obvious wildlife trails crossing the highway and much evidence of feral hog rootings close to the roadway. I was able to see an abundance of forest in the area including the Indian Mounds Wildlife Management Area.

The witness took me to another site where a lengthy visual encounter had been reported by yet another individual. The incident is of particular interest because of its length and what occurred (the witness claimed that rocks were thrown at him).

I plan to return to the area when I am certain that the other witnesses are available.

Photos

The subject was observed crossing the highway where the lighter and darker pavement transition occurs.
The subject appeared to have been traversing the riparian margins of Boregas Creek.
