Report Details

Occurrence date: October/2005
Location: Marion County, TX
Time / Conditions: First incident: 9:30 - 10:00 PM Second incident: 5:30-5:45 AM — First incident: 9:30 - 10:00 PM, cool & dry. Second incident: 5:30-5:45 AM, cool & slight fog. Wooded, but on the edge of a clear cut. The only thing that I can reference to a farm is, my cousin has a small garden, (maybe an acre), up near the front of his property, approx. 100 yards from his house.
# of Witnesses: 1

Witness Account:
First, my cousin was talking on the phone at about 9:30 - 10:00 at night (his mobile home is way out in the woods with no neighbors), and he heard a loud and very unusual noise which sounded like a scream. He has been in the woods all of his life and has never heard anything like it before or since. It startled him enough that he had me get him a large German Shepard to keep around his house.

Second, I went to his house every weekend during deer season to hunt. We had put some feed out for the deer a couple of weeks before season started, and I positioned my stand approximately 100 yds. from the feed. The first weekend of deer season I was walking to my deer stand at approx. 5:30 - 5:45 am, it was cool and a slight haze of moisture in the air like a light fog. Not light yet, but just starting to get to where I could see a little. I was walking at a pretty fast pace thru the woods on a trail that leads to my stand. I was watching the ground as I walked because the terrain is pretty rough.

All of the sudden I got a really weird feeling and froze in my steps. At the same time I stopped, I looked ahead of me approximately 10 yds. and there stood something that to this day gives me chills just to think about it. I thought it was a person because the very first thing I saw when I looked up was eyes. It stood off the edge of the trail and seemed to be leaning out slightly from behind the edge off some trees and brush. All I saw was its head and maybe a shoulder and arm. But, the thing that stands out the most was that it was much taller and larger than I am. I stand 6 ft. tall and weigh 190lbs. Its head was huge. It was positioned like it was watching me come up the trail. At the exact moment I looked up our eyes met, and there was no doubt whatsoever that we made direct eye contact and then it was gone. For a split second I thought, "what the heck is that, did I really see that?" And for something that seemed to be so big, it made very little noise leaving. I did hear rustling of brush and leaves as it left, but not much. I drew my weapon up in the ready position and then backed out of there as quickly as possible without running, because it was still not light enough yet and I was afraid that whatever it was, was circling me, so I kept turning this way and that way watching all sides as well as I could. I never heard another sound except the pounding in my chest. I actually didn't think I would make it back to safety for the first couple of minutes.

You've heard the saying, "fear nothing, but fear itself," - well that's a load of crap. In that same situation I believe that any person would feel like I did. It was intense to say the least.

Physical evidence:
No footprints that we could find later. But the ground had a lot of cover on it. Although, there were some smaller branches that were broke still attached to the tree near where I saw it.

Sounds:
No sounds except the rustling of leaves when it took off. And not much of that was heard.

Additional observations:
Its head was the size of a basketball maybe even a bit larger. The arm and shoulder were in proportion to the head. LARGE. It was covered in hair or maybe fur. I just know that I didn't see any skin. When I saw it on my way to the deer stand, I remember smelling what I thought at the time was a strong smell of horse manure. Even though my cousin has a horse, I never before or since have smelled that smell in that area.

I have not seen anything else, but I have heard the snapping of twigs when I`m deep in the woods out there. And I think we all know twigs don't snap by themselves, at least not to my knowledge. When I hear these sounds I stop and squat down to the ground and start watching all around me, sometimes for hours at a time. I don't see anything, but get that same weird feeling that someone or something is there close by. I must add that I've been a hunter and involved in the outdoors all my life and have never felt this way until this past deer season. And believe me, I've been in the woods before and after daylight on many occasions. After this happened I never went into the woods without a hi-powered handgun on my side. The reason being, if this thing were to take me by surprise or if I just so happened upon it again in a thicket, I know I can always get my handgun around much faster than a rifle. I'll tell you something else, if you are out looking for these animals without a weapon, you should strongly reconsider. This animal or whatever you want to call it, would have no trouble at all rushing upon you in an almost stealth like mode, and could over take any man, I believe, with little or no problem.

It's pretty wooded there but it's but on the edge of a clear cut. It's kind of like a small farm. My cousin has a small garden, (maybe an acre), up near the front of his property, approx. 100 yards from his house.

There are several ponds and creeks in the area, but the closest lake is either Monterey Lake, Lake Stratford, or maybe even Caddo Lake. This location is kind of in the middle of these three lakes.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Charles DeVore

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Harrison County, Texas in October 2005.

I have interviwed this witness several times both in person and by telephone; I have determined that he is extremely reliable. I have also visited the sighting location and all that I have seen lends credence to his report.

First, the location by using GPS is in North Marion County, accessible by several miles of gravel roads along a major water way known as Kitchens Creek that flows into Caddo Lake a few miles to the southeast. Sightings in this area have been reported for the past century.

This alleged sighting was early morning just before dawn and dim light. While the witness reportedly saw the head and shoulder, the sighting was not of a sufficient duration to have enabled him to register any facial expression; he stated that he just saw a huge head with lots of hair.

According to the witness, the subject instantly turned and left as did the witness. As mentioned in the report, the witness never saw any trace evidence such as tracks or scat. He claimed that he was able to find several broken limbs in the immediate vicinity of the alleged encounter.

The original report of an incident that allegedly occurred in fall of 2005 during deer hunting season was submitted on 25 February 2006. According to the witness another visual encounter took place on Saturday, 1 April 2006, 5:30 PM. He again visited the location of the incident; there was still plenty of sun light. This time, the witness reportedly was riding an ATV, and was approximately 200 yards from his earlier trail sighting. He rode into a clearing containing a pond. The witness stated that on the far side of the pond was a very large figure fitting the description of a bigfoot. The witness claimed that the figure was standing with its side to him at a distance of about 50 yards. It reportedly had very long, dirty, matted, black hair all over the body. The witness went on to say that he stopped the ATV, watched for a few seconds trying to discern its features.

What he noticed was reportedly a huge subject, seven to eight feet tall, standing on two feet, or bipedally, like a man, with a very bulky build. The witness stated that the subject turned its upper body to look at him and just stood their staring back at him. He purportedly did not see any organs that would denote gender. The distance was reportedly too great to see any facial expression. The witness claimed that he did notice that the eyes were very large and spaced far apart. Being unarmed and extremely startled, he sped off. Apparently, the witness forgot his own pledge to carry a high-powered handgun on him while in the area at all times.

The witness recalled that the subject was still standing, still looking at him as he left.

The witness's cousin who owns the property does NOT want an investigatory team there. This may change in the future, but for now, I am the sole extent of the landowner's allowance of NAWAC personnel. This is part of the problem that we consistently incur here in Texas, with approximately 95% of the land privately owned.
