Case: 01060003

Class 3c

Woman and husband hear wailing, haunting howl in Big Thicket.

Report Details

Occurrence date: December/2005
Location: Hardin County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Saratoga
Time / Conditions: 10-10:30 PM — Wooded, foggy, damp, humid.
# of Witnesses: 0

Witness Account:
My husband and I were sitting on the steps with our dogs fast asleep in the dog houses next to us. We did not have any lights on and we were enjoying our last cigarette before bed. My dogs are usually jumping around and play fighting for attention but they did not come out of the dog houses this night. I was looking up at the stars when suddenly this long, loud piercing scream came out of the night. Then the barred owls began hooting and the coyotes were suddenly howling. After about 6-10 seconds the original scream stopped and so did the coyotes and owls. 5 seconds later another scream pierced the air for 6-10 seconds with the coyotes and owls screaming along again. I could not identify the background scream and neither could my husband who has lived here all of his life. He will not admit to the existence of bigfoot but his grandmother has lived here over 50 years and she told me there are strange things in the Thicket but leaves it at that. I came to your site and I found the research paper on bigfoot vocalizations and I was astonished to find that the scream I heard EXACTLY matched the recording Ms. Bateman listed as 'Siren-like', recorded by NAWAC on April 9,2005.

Sounds:
I have lived in Saratoga for 4 years now and I have never heard those sounds before.

Investigator's Observations

I talked to the witness at length about what she and her husband heard. They live in the heart of the Big Thicket and very near where the NAWAC has conducted recent research.

She and her husband heard the haunting and bizarre screams on 28 December 2005. She described what they heard as sounding just like a siren, except that it didn t waiver. She said that it began just like a siren, and then the pitch remained constant for at least eight seconds before trailing off. Her description is exactly like what NAWAC researchers have heard on quite a few occasions in the Sam Houston National Forest and the Big Thicket National Preserve. The witness went on to say that the wailing scream was then repeated, and just as with the first scream or howl, the owls and coyotes went bonkers. She estimated the point of origin of the howl to be less than a mile from their place.

The witness is originally from the Dayton area in Liberty County, and grew up hearing about the monkey man. She submitted her report after being urged by a coworker.
