Witness Account:
Last year at about 12:30 a.m. my son and I were on our way home from the hospital and as we were driving down the road to our house (FM 241) we suddenly saw a very large, hair covered mammal about 7 foot tall standing on the center stripe of the road. It all happened so fast. We slowed down in order not to hit it with our truck and as we did, it just stood there looking at us. It was not afraid. I did however get to see its eyes, they were very shiny and blue, like a humans eye could be. This thing scared us and we drove away fast. Driving off I looked back and saw it take a couple of steps across the other half of the road and disappeared into the woods. We have watched for it ever since and have not seen it again. We know it was not scared because when we drove by slowly it would not move. We were so close to it we could have touched it if our window had been down.
Additional observations:
Its hair was long and a honey-brown color.
Investigator's Observations

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Cherokee County, Texas between Rusk and Alto, Texas on FM 241, in 2005.
This entire area is made up of very dense thick woods, rolling hills with deep valleys and low swampy areas. There is an abundance of deer, feral hog and other wild game; it is a hunter's playground.
Cherokee County is bordered on the west by the Neches River and on the east by the Angelina River. There are two creeks in the area with interesting names. One of which is called Monkey Creek. Monkey Creek feeds the Angelina River. Another creek in the immediate area is called Gibbons Creek. Creeks, like roads, streets and rivers, in many cases have names derived from local environmental characteristics. That these two creeks were seemingly named after primates is indeed interesting.
I met with both of the witnesses at their home; I was impressed by the mother and the son and their willingness to discuss the incident in an open and straightforward manner. At my request, they drew a sketch of what they encountered that night. I then took their statements and asked if we could drive to the sighting location; this whole area is covered in creeks, streams, and ponds and right where the sighting took place there is a small creek.
As we were looking at the area I noticed what actually looked like a doorway into the forest. The witnesses told me that the "doorway" was exactly where the subject was going that night. As I walked up to the entrance, I spotted a tree twist or break at about ten feet from the ground. As we walked down into the woods on this trail, we noticed that all of the high grass (which was still green) was pushed down just along the trail and no where else.
Walking carefully I looked down and saw what looked to me like an aged human-like track that was approximately 14 inches in length.
We then moved down into the creek bed itself and walked toward the bridge over the road as we walked, we all noticed a very large limb from a tree that was growing out of the side of the creek bed wall, approximately four inches in diameter that was broken and twisted sideways. Right next to it was another somewhat aged human-like print in the water. This track was also approximately 14 inches in length.
One of the witnesses then spotted a pile of wild grapes that had been split; the insides were eaten and the skins were left in a pile. I am uncertain what ate the grapes in this manner.
The next day I returned to the site with NAWAC Investigator Bruce Densford. We saw the two tracks that I had seen with the witnesses and another; we cast all three prints. We experienced problems with the Hydrocal drying very slowly, apparently due to high humidity. We allowed the casts one hour to dry, but we were running out of daylight and inclement weather was fast approaching. It appeared that rain was eminent and we couldn't give the casts anymore time. The first cast, the print that I found first, broke into several pieces. The second cast had a portion of the toe area break off. The third cast came out complete. I have the third cast and will allow it to dry thoroughly. The prints did not contain any dermals, and only retained a general shape of the footprint.
The third print was the best as it was in the softest soil so was imprinted the deepest. I showed the several tree breaks in the area to Bruce and he agreed that they appeared not to be related to weather or aging.
