Case: 01050023

Class 3a

Local sightings on the "Wallisville Monster".

Report Details

Occurrence date: Fall/1964
Location: Harris County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Channelview
# of Witnesses: 0

Witness Account:
In the Fall of 1964 I was in the second grade when this incident occurred, however, I thought that I would pass this information along in case it might relate to other bits and pieces of information that you have collected in your data base. The story goes that there was a Hominid type of creature spotted on the Wallisville Road near Channelview, Texas (Harris County). Local residents referred to this by various designations such as the Wallisville Monster, the Wallisville Road Werewolf or the "goat-man." The latter designation presumably referred to the smell that this creature gave off. Local residents took this sighting seriously enough to arm themselves with an assortment of firearms and go out looking for it. It is interesting to note that this locale is where the Piney woods of the southern Pine forest, the gulf coastal prairies and the swamps all come together to form what is commonly referred to in Texas as "the Big Thicket." In 1964 the Wallisville Road was a shell/gravel road that was barely wide enough for two cars to pass one another. The lasting effects of this story continued throughout the years so that in 1974, ten years later, my friends and I would drive down into this area looking for any type of strange activity. The original sighting was before the Patterson film made us aware of a creature known as Sasquatch/Bigfoot and before the production of "The Legend of Boggy Creek" (the movie). This was not a first hand eyewitness account but was recalled after reading through some of your other narratives. Today, over forty years later, the Wallisville road is a developed area with housing divisions and industries.

Investigator's Observations

While this is not an actual sighting report, it is an interesting story of events surrounding the Channelview, Wallisville area during the 60's on thru the 70's.

These were common knowledge stories during his school days to the extent that his and his buddies would go driving the swampy areas around Wallisville after they were old enough to have cars, hoping for an encounter. None of their trips produced any sightings, vocalizations or events that would lead to activity attributed to Bigfoot or Sasquatch.

While he did speak with an actual witness in his youth, he does not remember any details of the sighting beyond the location. Location was remote swamp region at that time but is heavily populated now.
