Case: 01050016

Class 3a

Truck driver has late night encounter.

Report Details

Occurrence date: February/1991
Location: Tyler County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Chester
Time / Conditions: 1:00am - 2:00am — It's wooded and swampy.
# of Witnesses: 1

Witness Account:
I was a truck driver at the time for a huge retail chain. I was driving down Hwy 287 between Chester and Woodville about 1-2 o'clock in the morning. There was no traffic so I had my high beams on. Then I saw this thing standing along the side of the road, it was huge covered in dark fur, and it just walked (on two legs) across 287 in 3 steps. Now that highway is about 25 feet wide. As it crossed it looked at the truck and its eyes reflected in the light, like most animals...but the color was not like any I had ever seen before. Once it got across the road it stopped, looked in the other direction and then just slipped off into the woods. I was about even with it as it got to the edge of the tree line. It just kept going until I lost sight of it.

It was tall...approximately 7 feet tall, covered with dark brown/black hair, with an odd-colored eye shine.

This is the first time I've said anything about this to anyone except my wife and my two daughters.

Physical evidence:
I didn't stop to see if there was any.

Additional observations:
This was between Chester and Woodville, Texas. The Angelina River is just north, but the whole area is low and swampy.

When I asked a guy at the truck stop if anyone had ever seen anything weird in the area before...he said, "Do you mean Bigfoot?, heck yeah people around here have been seeing him for years."

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Mike Hall

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Tyler County, Texas in 1991.

I interviewed the witness at length; my perception of him was that he gave a true and accurate account of the events of 28 February 1991.

After speaking with the witness about this incident many times since he first told me about it, his recollection of the event has remained the same; he recalled seeing a large bipedal subject almost seven feet tall cross the highway in front of his truck in the early morning hours between Chester and Woodville, Texas in the spring of 1991. The witness's description of the subject matches most descriptions given by witnesses purported to have encountered a bigfoot or sasquatch. The witness said to me, "That's the only thing in the world it could have been."
