Witness Account:
I was deer hunting on a piece of land called Benton right off of Caddo lake. I was standing at the shoreline watching the water when I saw something out of the side of my eye. Looked to my left and saw an animal come out of the water, look both ways and then walk into the woods. The animal was large even at the 50-yard distance dividing us. As I was walking back to the truck I saw a foot print in some loose soil.

Hand/foot prints:
Footprint in some soft soil.

Additional observations:
Large hair covered animal. There was no smell.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Charles DeVore

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Harrison County, along the shoreline of Caddo Lake, in 1987.

I have spoken with this witness a number of times as this incident reportedly occurred within a mile of my home. I know the witness to be a credible individual. He is 29 years old and has hunted this area all his life. He informed me that he has heard many stories about bigfoot sightings, has heard many unexplained noises and seen many possible footprints but this was his only visual encounter.

The witness remembered that he was still-hunting for deer; it was mid-afternoon. The witness stated that he was concealed at the water's edge on the southeast side of Benton Lake off Big Cypress Bayou above Caddo Lake, when he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye. The witness recalled how he then observed a figure in the motion of standing up from a crouched position, standing in approximately 1 foot of water. At that time the subject reportedly looked from side to side and walked out of the water and then promptly disappeared into the woods. The subject was standing and walking bipedally. The witness had the impression that the subject did not notice him; the witness was very well camouflaged and off to the side at about 50 yards.

The witness estimated that he was able to observe the subject for possibly as long as two minutes as it looked around and walked off into the surrounding woods. The subject appeared to be roughly six feet tall and appeared to be covered with hair from head to toe. It appeared to be black in color but it was in the shadows of trees and had no direct sunlight on it. The witness stated that he could not make out facial details.

Being alone and somewhat startled, the witness did not go to look at the place where subject walked out of the water; the witness immediately left the scene. The witness remembered seeing one very large footprint in some loose soil on his way back to his truck.

The site of this incident is only 1/4 mile from another reported sighting during winter of 2001 by one of our locals (who will not go public with his sighting), and is 3/4 mile from where I had a possible encounter (no actual sighting) also during the winter of 2001.
