Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Jerry Hestand

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on the edge of Lake Texoma in Grayson County, Texas, during the summer of 1998.

I interviewed the witness on 31 March 2002 after she had been referred to us by George Clappison of the OBRSG.

The witness told me that she was sitting with a friend on a picnic table when she saw "three creatures" walk out of the tree line all of different sizes. The three figures walked out of the tree line close to the trees up against the lake. The witness asked the friend if he could see the creatures. The friend slowly turned around and quietly said, "Yes." The two could not believe what they were seeing. The witness estimated that the subjects were only 40 to 50 feet away from them. She described the subjects as brownish and covered with hair; they were upright. The witness could provide no other details.

A couple of years later, the witness was in the Preston Shores area of Lake Texoma. This is not far from the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The witness was by herself when she heard a pig screaming and squealing. There was a pig farm nearby, but the witness said that what she heard did not sound like two pigs fighting; to her it sounded more like a predator attacking a pig. During the incident, the witness heard a low throaty roar; she never heard a sound like that before. She left the area immediately.

In the same area later on, the witness's friend lost a pit bull to something one night. The dog was chained on the porch, when it started barking. Something was bothering it. Then suddenly silence. Her friend went out to check on the dog. The pit bull was gone. It had been torn off of its chain and carried a short ways off. Reportedly the dog had been mutilated; its head and organs were missing. According to the witness there was little to no blood found around the carcass.
