Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Jerry Hestand

This investigation was conducted as a result of incidents that allegedly occurred in Hardin County, Texas in 1987 and 1994.

I interviewed the witness on 31 March 2002 after he contacted us via our toll free hotline. He had seen a TXCN news piece on the NAWAC. The witness claimed to have had three different encounters.

The witness stated that the first incident took place in October of 1987 in Hardin County. The witness remembered that weather was comfortable and the moon was probably a half moon. The witness and a friend were sitting in their car on Bragg Road, which is a unique stretch of very straight road that runs eight miles through the Big Thicket. The road runs along the old path of a railroad track, and is widely known for the so-called ?ghost lights.? The lights supposedly appear, at various times, out of nowhere and then disappear. The lights are said to vary in size.

Sometime after midnight, the witness recalled, something came by the car and struck the back passenger side. Apparently the sound was quite loud and the witnesses became alarmed. Both the witness and his friend got out of the car to investigate. They found nothing.

The witness reported that second incident happened a couple of weeks later on the same Bragg Road. The witness was with the same person sitting in the car trying to catch a glimpse of the ?ghost lights? again, when something large came out of the woods, running on two feet. The witness remembered that some large biped, covered with hair, ran out in front of their car and looked directly at them. There was enough moonlight to determine the subject was not human. The subject was very large and dark with a reddish color.

The third incident allegedly happened in 1994 when the witness was traveling between Woodville and Beaumont, Texas. It was late at night and the witness was traveling by himself. The witness said that he saw a reddish brown creature running from one side of the road to the other directly in front of his vehicle. The witness watched the subject cross the road and kept on going. The witness was shaken and did not stop until he reached his destination. The witness was not certain of the exact location of this incident; it could have taken place in Hardin or Tyler County.
