Case: 01010007

Class 1d

Roadside visual encounter on FM 1997 west of Woodlawn.

Report Details

Occurrence date: December/1996
Location: Harrison County, TX
Nearby/Vicinity: Woodlawn
Time / Conditions: 11:30pm — Wooded.
# of Witnesses: 2

Witness Account:
My son and I were going north on FM 1997 outside of Marshall, Texas heading to Lake O' the Pines for New Year's party. We saw something that appeared to be a very large man with a brown fur coat on. It was a mostly wooded area but the thing was just off the road approximately 8 feet. The highway right-of-way was cleared about 20 feet to wooded areas on both sides. A small creek ran a few feet north of where it (the creature or ?) was. It looked like it was kneeling possibly on one knee facing away from us. I slowed the car when we first saw it. We said to each other "what was that?" We discussed going back to get a better look but decided against it. The next morning we went back to the spot to see if maybe someone had left a large object on the side of the road, but found nothing.

Sounds:
We heard nothing and it remained perfectly still as we passed.

Additional observations:
This was near Woodlawn, Texas, about 15 miles west of Caddo Lake.

Investigator's Observations

Investigator(s): Craig Woolheater

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Harrison County, Texas in 1996.

I talked to the witnesses in July of 2001 while I was making preparations for the 2001 Texas Bigfoot Conference. Although the incident reportedly occurred five years earlier, Dr. John Bindernagel and I went to the site after the Conference on 16 September 2001. According to the primary witness, the site had remained much as it was at the time of the visual encounter.

We surveyed the surroundings and found similarities to other areas of reported sightings. We found a power line right of way intersecting with the road at an angle and a peach orchard across the road.

We suspected that the subject may have been in the process of feeding when the witnesses passed by it on the highway.
